When installing solar panels, orientation and angle are important elements to consider. Engineers will find the best orientation and angel to install the solar panels, in order to get the longest eligible sunlight. It also means sunlight that couldn’t reach the surfaced of the solar panels are being wasted everyday. It would be good if there’s a solar panel that could rotate to chase the sunlight just like a sunflower!

There are many tall buildings in Hong Kong, it is a pity when solar panels could only be installed on the rooftop. It would be good if solar panels could be installed on the outer walls of a building and on its windows without affecting the building structure nor blocking the sunlight!

Wait, these technologies actually exist! Both technologies are being developed. Mr Hon Ming Wong, Technical Manager of CarbonCare InnoLab will share with us the technological development of sun tracker and building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV).

Mr Hon Ming Wong (Technical Manager of CarbonCare InnoLab)  

Mr Hong Ming Wong (CEng, MIET, PMP) is a Hong Kong Chartered Engineer. He was responsible for many large-scale solar power plant constructions projects for the government, corporates and schools in Hong Kong and Mainland China. They include projects of EMSD Headquarter, HK Electric, Hong Kong Housing Authority, Kerry Properties, etc.

Graduated from the Master of Sustainable Tourism of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Tiffany is passionate in issues related to sustainable development and climate change. She was involved in the research about the feasibility of the adopt of MSW policy organised by the Hong Kong Government. Tiffany has over 9 years of experience in marketing and research areas.
