About HK2050isNOW

Hong Kong 2050 is Now is a Hong Kong-based platform for education, collaboration, and action on the climate crisis. We seek to inspire ambitious target setting, induce behavior change, and mobilise collective action towards a carbon-neutral Hong Kong.

We believe tackling the climate crisis does not need to compromise quality of life. The decarbonisation of our city is not only technically feasible, but also offers “multiple wins,” including significant economic and environmental benefits. We believe a decarbonised city is people-centric, more liveable, healthier, and economically successful. That is what we envision for Hong Kong.

To achieve these benefits and reach net-zero emissions at reasonable cost, action must be taken as soon as possible.

Theory Of Change

Our theory of change across our program has three aspects.

  • 1

We conduct relevant research that identifies the right approach and targets to achieve the policy change we want to see.

  • 2

We target relevant sectors according to appropriate action plans and encourage engagement.

  • 3

Our third phase is rooted in education and media that helps push policy reform and any additional desired subsequent action. Our theory of change ensures an inclusive process that seeks to connect sectors and build coalitions for change.

Research

Identify the key issue and conduct evidence based and interdisciplinary research. Apply research findings to shed light on the issue and reframe policy debates, identify key targets for change and approach.

PLATFORM/PARTNERSHIP

From an initial group consisting of Civic Exchange, World Resources Institute, RS Group, and ADM Capital Foundation, Hong Kong 2050 is Now as a collaborative initiative has grown into a broad-based platform supporting the community of stakeholders driving climate action in Hong Kong.

Our partners and us believe policy and behavior changes can only be achieved with strong community support, and that can only come when Hong Kong’s citizens are educated and informed about climate change as it relates directly to our lives. We have therefore set out to include amongst our network a broad array of experts, policy makers, community leaders, business leaders, NGO leaders, academics, and youth leaders. This ensures that we can access, share, and exchange ideas on all solutions that offer Hong Kong the greatest potential for emissions reductions, from policy to education to media and community engagement, all underpinned by evidence-based research.

Ultimately, we want to inspire Hong Kong people to visualize what a cleaner, healthier, greener city we can live in, how that offers us a better quality of life, and how we can all play a part.
